A Brand New Year!

Well, the summer has flown by. I had two months of uncertainty not knowing where I would be working this year. I have finally planted roots teaching a Combined First and Second Grade Class. This is a whole new world to me. On top of that I am co-teaching. I am thrilled to have another teacher to work so closely with. I think together we can give each student wonderful support and guidance!

I have spent the last few days setting up the room. When I walked in to the room for the first time I almost had a panic attack (a little over dramatic possibly). All the furniture was stacked in the center of the room. There were no windows, no shelves, and no cabinets or closets..AHHHH! Once I peeled apart the furniture to see what was there I had way to much for my small space. Thankfully one of the tables was placed in my room by mistake... this alleviated part of the clutter. After moving around furniture for about 40 minutes I learned that (thank goodness) I was getting shelving and cabinets put in. They were also installing a Mimio Board. As excited as I was to have this new information I did have to do some rearranging. With another day of decorating I have a good start on setting up the space. It was hard to finish because the shelves and cabinets hadn't been put in yet...hopefully by Monday!
After getting that fourth kidney table out. Starting to take shape.

I also had a chance to work on homework folders for my little kiddos. This is something I wanted to do last year but didn't get a chance to. I'm pretty excited about them. They have labels on each pocket (right back to school and left at home). They also have some reference sheets in page protectors so I an switch them out as needed. Last but not least they have a plastic zip baggie attached so I can put in sight words, spelling words, or math facts for them to practice at home. I got the reference sheets from Mrs. Ricca's Kindergarten. They will be perfect for the beginning of the year and I can add to them as we learn new skills.

Last but not least I worked on my classroom library. I had accumulated a ton of books last year teaching first grade but had no where to keep them in the classroom because the classroom library was provided for me. This was fantastic but I was at a loss for where to keep my own books...now they have a place all their own! I will have to take a better picture next week. The bins each need to be labeled. I found some cute labels from A Year of Many Firsts. They are free and cover a wide range of authors and topics.
